Dr Bhrett McCabe is a sports and performance psychologist who came on to Golf in the Life of a couple weeks ago to talk about PROGRESS (check that out here).

How do we get stuff done, set goals, and feel actually feel better about ourselves?!?  As a coach it’s easy to invest all your time into students and leave little energy left over to care about yourself and your business.   How do you keep your energy up and stay productive?

So when Dr Bhrett started talking about will power withdrawals and deposits I had to hear how to better manage this asset in our lives.  And he shared this fantastic 5 habits to reduce stress and increase productivity.  Definitely worth checking out.

1- Do the Admin Work

What causes the most stress in your life? The little things that can be gotten out of the way quickly, so that when you’re in the midst of doing something important you don’t have stress kicking in when you need it the least.

Examples:

  • Paying bills
  • Booking travel
  • Scheduling appointments

We all can relate to that pit in your stomach as you’re sitting on a conference call or getting ready to go into a meeting about a small to-do that slipped by.

Get it done before it becomes a problem and eliminate the stress.

2 – Prioritize Developmental Work

If you want to create great experiences and be able to deliver a solid product you need to start planning and preparing plenty of time in advance.

Plan out what you need to do now so you can be successful in the future (and start taking action).  To many times these tasks are put off because they simply don’t seem important…  That’s not true.  To many times we confuse what’s urgent adn what’s important.

It’s easy to put off the growth activities and the drivers of your business, but will lead you into a cycle of simply maintenance rather than growth.

3 – Schedule Time to Improve

What we’re doing today can be done better. You should always be pushing to be better today than you were yesterday. (Martin Hall says is best)

The biggest villain of a successful professional life is ignorance.

Ignorance = Lack of Knowledge.

The people with the limited knowledge are the ones who define their solutions as black or white. The more educated you are the more you can define the levels of grey.

Open yourself up to different viewpoints and perspectives to push the envelope of what you know and believe.

4 – Execute

Put your training and preparation into work and execute.

5 – Review and Reflect

Great to have at the end of the day, but whatever works with your schedule is better than not at all.

You can call it meditation or whatever you like but you have to take a look at what you’re doing and make sure everything is in order.

The goal is to make sure that you’re getting what needs to get done to reduce stress and anxiety in your life.  When looking at the past you can often see the most obvious areas for growth, improvement
