Jay was a sign maker by trade and started teaching golf as a retirement plan. He started at a club with little instruction and built his business from scratch… don’t miss this.
Jay had experience as coach (not specifically in golf) and approached his students differently.
His first group of students came from his club’s ladies group, signing up 12 golfers and getting them on the golf course
His first goal was to help them understand how to play and become more aware of the real issues with their game.
A golf instructor sells an answer.
A coach get’s to know the player and build the roadmap.
One of the most effective pieces of Jay’s program was his “caddie program”. He had players rotate between caddying and playing so they could help understand realistic shot selection, expectations, and strategy.
The caddie program helps players ask better questions and become their own best coaches.
Because of his success at his first course Jay was invited to a high end private club in the area and was able to get 50% of members into his coaching program. We talk about that story and Jay shares everything he did to convert so many members into students.
