Matt Rudy is a Golf Digest Senior Writer and co-author of over 22 books, so he is the perfect guy to talk about writing your first book. We dive into everything from the idea to the most common mistakes people make when thinking about writing a book.
You have to have a good idea and you have to have a concept that you want to push forward that’s different than anybody else’s.
Because of self-publishing, there are a lot of half-baked ideas out there and things that aren’t executed particularly well.
If you want to separate yourselves from those ideas then you have to put a little more polish to it than just dashing something off. But if you have the time commitment (it takes around three months to do it right) it doesn’t take much technical expertise, anybody can upload a file and have something ready to go and put in a short order in.
Now if you are a teacher who has the germ of an idea that’s maybe a four-chapter idea or a serial idea that you want to do in parts, you can do something very inexpensively and get that idea across in a $6.99 golf book or $9.99 golf book that doesn’t cost a huge amount to produce and it doesn’t cost a huge amount to buy and get your name out there,
There’s a great market for teachers to do this who have great ideas to share.
